The Rebellion

The Rebellion is a 135 mile (217 Km) Ultra Marathon in Mid Wales. It follows the full length of the Glyndwr’s Way National Trail with a total ascent of just over 25,000ft (7700m). The event starts in Knighton, just on the Welsh border and loops through Machynlleth. The event finishes in Welshpool. It is one of the most beautiful and demanding ultra running routes in the UK.

Glyndwr’s Way National Trail is one of the newest National Trails and doesn’t follow any particular geographic features or any historic routes. It links many places associated with Owain Glyndwr and is where is gets its name. Owain Glyndwr was the last Welshman to hold the title Prince of Wales and led a rebellion against the English. The route has an unusual V shape due to the way it links the places.

The race starts at 19:00 on Friday the 16th July 2021 and has a 60 hour time limit to reach Welshpool (07:00 on Monday the 19th July 2021). Meaning competitors must average just 2.25 miles (3.6km) per hour to complete the race. There are 4 checkpoints on route that all competitors must pass through within a time limit. Each checkpoint is a community hall/leisure center that is well stocked with food, hot drinks and water for competitors to recharge and re-supply.
